Red-G Smith Red-G Smith a native Pittsburgher began his artistic career in the two dimensional world of abstract painting. While he enjoyed abstract painting, Red-G yearned to add more form and substance to his works. His artistic medium has evolved into three dimensional sculptures, created with a wide variety of materials. Red-G grew up in Pittsburgh's "Hill" district in the 1940's and 50's, in a place quite different from what is there today. The sculptures of Red-G Smith are the fruition of artistic talent and storytelling. All of Red-G's sculptures have a story to tell. The three sculptures featured here are on exhibition and are for sale. Please click on any icon for full images and to see if any are right for you. ![]() 1419 Dimensions At Base: Height 33.5", width 16", depth 8" Composition: wood, metal, plastic and other construction materials 1419 Paulette Street was located in Pittsburgh's Lower Hill district. The Mellon Arena now sits on that area. This type of architecture was common on the Lower Hill. Note the slightly angled basement that mimics a house built on a hill. The densely populated neighborhoods were composed primarily of African Americans, Italian Americans and Jewish Americans. Red-G lived next door to 1419. Note the dog on the steps, its hind legs were crushed by a car. This prompted Red-G's dad to make a harness for the dog so it could get around, this was around 1950. $950 Order Now Using Paypal |

Ma Pitts a Lower Hill watering hole was not far from Red-G's house. It was a popular spot as were many in the pulsing neighborhoods of the Lower Hill. There were apartments atop the establishment their entrance was the door on the right. The damage caused by a careless smoker is still visible on the third floor Note the detail $800 Order Now Using Paypal |
MattyDimensions: height 48", width 21", depth 16" Composition: bar stool, fabric, hair, suede, plastic, metal A young girl getting on the bus prompted this one. My thoughts were of how young people modulate themselves with piercing in every part of their bodies; dressed to the max and pregnant Red-G Matty, the surreal, a fusion of the abstract juxtaposed with reality. A whimsical look at keeping it real or the absurd. Immediately recognizable, as is the three musicians, mocking, laughing, life. $1,200 Order Now Using Paypal |
